The Swedish State Ombudsman, gives "scorching critism" of SJV's (Swedish Min of Ag) interpretation of EU Ruling C-206/05. Sweden was found at fault and ordered to abolish Avelsvärdering (unlawful genetic test) because the practice was seen as an obstacle to trade. He described SJV's handling of this Ruling as "completely unacceptable".
SJV removed avelsvärdering from the legislation then turned a blind eye to it remaining in the rule books of the Breeding Organisations, even actively encouraging these Societies to keep an unlawful practice. A State created system remains as compulsory today as it was before, protecting a 97 yr old closed shop. It makes a mockery of the law and what example is it that a Government Dept should behave in such a way.
It's a sad day for Swedish breeders who like the rest of the world would like access to the stallions of their choice.
