Ridden by three of the Worlds Greatest show jumpers Jos Lansink, John and Micheal Whitaker his show jumping career Calvaro Z is very much worthy of adding to the list of World Class Stallions. In recent years his progeny have become exceedingly fashionable based on the star qualities of his older sons and daughters such as Night Train (Calvaro x Papillon Rouge) Katchina Mail, Ralvesther (Calvaro x Zevenster) who are consistantly demonstrating their brave attitude, carefullness and ability to perform at the highest of levels.
Due to his show jumping commitments Calvaro himself started his stud career late, however, in his first season whilst standing at Zangershiede, he produced 232 foals and in his second season 246. Calvaro was later approved on behalf of the Scottish Sports horse and became a popular sire with Scottish Breeders with a number of his foals topping the grading results and more recently his daughter "Hazel" (Calvaro x Ramiro Z) placing third in the Scottish Sports Horse Loose Jumping Championships in 2009. His progeny are now very much in demand across Europe frequently selected for the PSI and other elite auctions but was very much under utilised by British Breeders as quickly gained a reputation for not always producing the most attractive of progeny and often not with the greatest of hind legs. Nonetheless his progeny often possess the most tremendous of canters and a power to their jump that is frequently unriavaled currently placing Calvaro in 10th position in the WBFSH show jumping sire rankings with and exceptionally high ratio of his sons and daughters consistantly jumping the 1.60m tracks.
Calvaro was later purchased by Scottish Breeder Nicola Gillespie and John Whitaker the partnership that became (First Choice Stallions) and competed for Great Britain with John in the Sydney Olympics he was later jumped under the title of Virtual Village Calvaro and was later retired to France.
The good news is that his frozen semen is still available.
